About David
“Who knew that learning about interior design on national television could be so fun?” Only a designer as frank and fiercely creative as David Bromstad would dare make such a statement about his own blossoming career. When David Bromstad was crowned the original HGTV Design Star in 2006, he was an accomplished artist and muralist and had spent years designing dream bedrooms for children across the Southeast US. A self-taught builder, David also honed his carpentry skills by creating all the furnishings and props for each of the fantasy rooms he created. But designing kitchens, baths, master suites and great rooms? Not so much.
Today he is one of the most celebrated interior design personalities on television and the star of his very own design show, Color Splash: Miami, on HGTV. But even a few years ago David could not have anticipated his swift rise to fame, and in 2010, he became the first ever HGTV personality to be named to the OUT Magazine 100 list, alongside international superstar Ricky Martin and Oscar-nominated actress Julianne Moore.
Growing up in small town Minnesota, David’s budding creativity and passion for drawing led him to the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. David launched his career in art and design at Walt Disney World in Orlando shortly after completing his education – a dream come true! David has conceived and executed major installations for Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. David’s installations are a focal point at many of the world’s top amusement parks and seen by millions of visitors every year.
David’s infectious blend of energy, creativity and dedication to each project distinguish him as a truly unique artist, design personality and television host! In addition to his first series, Color Splash, he has appeared on HGTV Showdown; $250,000 Challenge; Bang for Your Buck and many other national programs. As of December 2010, David has appeared on more than 100 episodes of his signature hit show, Color Splash!
